Rotation

How Often to Rotate Stored Water (My Calendar System)

A twice-a-year rotation tied to daylight saving time, with labels that make it automatic.

Stored water doesn't spoil like milk, but containers can pick up tastes, and home-filled jugs should be refreshed. Ready.gov suggests replacing home-filled water about every six months. Store-bought water keeps until its printed date.

My twice-a-year rhythm

When the clocks change in March and November, I swap out home-filled jugs, test flashlights and check pantry dates. It's one Saturday morning, coffee in hand.

Labels

A strip of masking tape: fill date, "rotate by" date and the source. Permanent marker, big letters.

Don't waste the old water

Water the garden, fill the mop bucket or flush toilets with it. Nothing goes down the drain unused.
